“we are imperfect, what a lovely thing to be”

We’re Made To Love, a project by R3NYAS

If you could say anything to anyone you ever loved, what would you say?

And yes, I mean anything to anyone. Anything from just one word to an entire essay. Anyone as in anyone you’ve loved platonically, romantically, or like family. It could be a simple “fuck you” to a previous best friend, or it could be an entire poetry book written in dedication to your romantic partner.

I’m asking this is because I am collecting love letters and other artefacts of love to showcase them to the world in a “digital museum of love”. I’m doing this because love should be intentional. Love should be displayed. Love should be cherished and preserved because to love is to be alive.

There’s still a lot of time to figure out where this project will live and how it will take shape. While the specifics are being formulated, the current timeline is predicting that the go-live date will be no sooner than 2027, if not later. Right now, we are in the Phase One (The Collection Phase) which is the most important part of this project. I need your help, and I am asking that if you have something to say to someone you love(d), say it.

My hope is that with time, this will build traction and there will be a lot of material to work with (so please share this!). While I do want a focus on love letters, I would love to include any type of other artefact of love (from things such as emails or text messages to handwritten notes or homemade gifts). “Artefact” is defined here as anything whose only purpose was to exist to hold one’s love for another (see Submission Criteria). Think of all of the stories, the final words, the wishes, the hopes, the regrets… Love is the most tender and raw emotion, and yet it can be the most difficult and we often forget that love exists. People could definitely use a reminder that love is everywhere, and love is why we’re here.

We’re made to love.

Artefact/Love Letter Submission Criteria:

Love Letter

  • This can be a past, present, or future written statement of love.
  • This can be written or typed I have written (see examples further down).
  • There is no minimum or maximum character count.

*If you are writing a letter, please put your submission into here*

*If you have a submission of an already written letter, please email weremadetoloveproject@outlook.com*

Artefact

It’s a little hard to outline what CAN be submitted, so I will outline what CAN’T be submitted (click the triangle to see more)
  • No graphics that may be harmful or upsetting including but not limited to:
    • Bestiality
    • Gore
    • Violence
    • Sexual violence
    • Incest
    • Nudity
    • and more
  • Themes of things that are morally corrupt including but not limited to:
    • Pedophilia
    • Rape
    • Physical/emotional abuse
    • and more

At the end of the day, I am taking a risk by opening this up to the public and I am okay with that. Art is a risk, and I have the potential to collect some really cool artefacts. Just try to have common sense and human decency when submitting and think: is this dark in a cool artistic way that’s really deep or is this just weird and dark?

So, if you were given the floor to pour your heart out and to be heard, what would you want the message to be?

It will be 100% anonymous, and nothing will be altered. If you reach out after you submit a piece and ask me to not include it, I will delete it (unless you want a copy).

If you’re still hesitant, or don’t have a clear picture of what I’m looking for, I’ve included the first submissions which are “love letters” of my own or that I’ve received (because in order to be a good artist, I should be vulnerable and authentic), and concepts by yours truly.

Examples & Concepts:

F.A.Q/Misc.

Why?

Why should you partake in this? Because it’s cool to be a part of something big. Because love needs to be highlighted and emphasised more. Because it’s nice to get your feelings out. Because sometimes you have things that you don’t want to let go of, but they serve no purpose in anywhere but something like this. Because why not?

Why am I doing this? Well to be honest, in the recent months I’ve been losing myself, my purpose, and my love for life. My insecurities, fear, and cosmic loneliness have never felt more present and I think it would be nice to have a reminder of all of the love in the world, in one place.

Timeline

  • Phase One (Collection Phase)

This phase will be spent collecting letters and artefacts. Using print and digital promotional media, WMTL will be pushed through many different communities in attempts to reach a wide audience. Submissions will be reviewed and digitised for Phase Two. Concurrently, conceptual designs will be workshopped to prepare for Phase Two.

  • Phase Two (Architecture Phase)

This phase will be spent designing the digital museum. There is not a clear path to what/whom will host this, and there are a few frameworks and models I’ve created that I am hoping can be fine tuned into the museum I’m envisioning in my head.

  • Phase Three (Go Live)

This phase will be spent preparing for the exact Go-Live date. This includes promotional material. The agenda may have to be revisited depending on how Phase One and Two go.

  • Phase Four (Perpetual)

This is what will remain of the project after. Until I feel like taking it down, people will be free to add and submit entries for the rest of their life.

a personal message from R3NYAS:

Thank you so much for checking out my digital hub for my work. The internet has always fascinated me, and so has the death of it. Physically, we are lacking third spaces. Technologically, we are lacking in websites and online archives to discover. In the early stages of the internet, websites of random art, information, or entertaining creations were abundant. Now, we only have consumerism. My life’s work is (and will continuously) be added here and I’m so thankful that you’re interested in my existence and the things I’ve created.

if you see this, tell me your favourite songs, travel recommendations, food to try, etc.
